Abstract

Abstract1,1,4‐Trimethyl‐4‐carbethoxy‐cyclohexan‐3‐ol, by loss of water in alkaline medium, gave 1,1,4‐trimethyl‐4‐carbethoxy‐cyclohex‐2‐ene which has been converted into the corresponding aldehyde. This latter compound, on condensation with acetone, gave 1,1,4‐trimethyl‐4‐(41‐buten‐43‐on)‐yl‐cyclohex‐2‐ene, a further isomer of α‐ionone, with both the isolated methyl group and the butenone side chain in position 4 of the ring.
