Abstract

Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) are a special case of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). VANETs are self organizing networks. In this paper we will introduce VANETs, then we will look briefly at the various proposed protocols for VANETs viz. Destination Sequenced Distance Vector routing (DSDV), Dynamic Source Routing (DSR). Further in this paper we will briefly describe the various software that we have used in the simulation of VANETs viz. Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO), Mobility Model Generator for Vehicular Networks (MOVE) and Qualnet. We will then have a look at VANETs and their applicability on Indian roads before proposing WiMAX as a possible solution. Then we will have a look at the security issues in VANETs and before concluding the paper we will have a look at the various possible applications of VANETs.
