Abstract

This paper describes a statistical model of bulk ferromagnetic hysteresis with emphasis on hysteresis relative to arbitrary rotating field sequences similar to those which occur during magnetic recording. The model allows a qualitatively correct description of both reversible and irreversible magnetization, complex minor loop behaviour and anhysteresis in a more general setting than is customary. It is shown that partially magnetized states can be described by phase diagrams which extend the oft-cited Preisach diagrams to the vectorial case. The model is also shown to compare favourably with two prevailing vector hysteresis models.
