Abstract

A vector field model for asymmetric proximity data is discussed with focusing our main attention on estimation of the scalar potential of the field. Assume that the locations of the data through applying some suitable multidimensional scaling method then vector values at those locations are estimated from the remaining anti-symmetric component. Various aspects of asymmetry can be revealed even if little prior knowledge about the data might be available.
