Abstract

The utility of existing bond graph methods in the analysis of complex mechanical systems has been limited significantly by the absence of a tensor based vector modeling methodology. Topological simplifications are needed in order to recapture the efficiency of graphical model formulation work for complex mechanisms. The needed simplifications can be achieved by the introduction of new bond graph structures which express in coordinate free form the momentum and energy balance relations and kinematic constraints commonly encountered in mechanical system dynamics.
