Abstract

AbstractWe propose a VBR video transmission scheme with isochronous and asynchronous transfer mode over Wireless 1394. In the proposed scheme, to decrease the idle bandwidth in the isochronous area, a video station which uses the isochronous transfer mode is assigned bandwidth equivalent to the average rate of the video stream. Video data over the average rate are transmitted in asynchronous transfer mode, and video stations have higher transmission priority than data stations in asynchronous transfer mode. By computer simulations, we show that the proposed scheme can improve the channel utilization performance and the waiting time performance, and that it is effective for VBR video transmission. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
