Abstract

Low cost glass fermentor design for mass micropropagation of ginger. We developed a low cost glass fermenting devise for massive micro-propagation of ginger in the Biotechnology Research Center of Instituto Tecnologico de Costa Rica, during the fi rst semester of 2003. The fermenting devise is an effi cient, low cost system (approximated $4 USD), that uses 350 ml of liquid media, and it is able to propagate between 50 to 75 explants, each one producing 2,9±1.4 buds, with an average height of 3.1±0.1cm, fresh weight of 1.2 ± 0.5g and dry weight of 0.24 ± 0.27g.
