Abstract
A review of the Mayo Clinic experience between 1971 and 1986 revealed an incidence of acute arterial insufficiency following total knee arthroplasty of 0.03%. Preexisting arteriosclerotic disease and correction of extensive flexion contractures appear to predispose to this complication. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for satisfactory results.
