Abstract

A new journal in the field of nutritional anthropology will begin publication in the spring of 1984. Food and Foodways—Explorations in the History and Culture of Human Nourishment aims "to reflect on the historical and cultural meanings of food, and the ways in which food shapes our lives socially, economically, politically, mentally, and morally." Manuscripts are being sought from anthropologists in all subfields, as well as from sociologists, economists, ethnobotanists, psychologists, nutritionists, and literary critics. Initially, Food and Foodways will appear four times a year and contain about 100-120 pages per issue. Some issues will be diverse, while others will focus on a specific theme, such as an issue planned on food and sexual identity. Inquiries concerning subscription or publication should be directed to Steven L. Kaplan, Department of History, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853 or Jean-Louis Flandrin, Maison des Sciences de l'Homme, 54 Boulevard Raspail, 75006 Paris, France.
