Abstract

Objective: It has been shown that spermatozoa with retained residual cytoplasm have defective function and elaborate excessive levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS). There is some evidence to suggest that varicocele is associated with excessive ROS production in semen but the exact mechanism remains unknown. As such, we sought to determine whether varicocele is associated with retention of sperm residual cytoplasm in infertile men.
