Abstract

Gastric antral electrical activity in healthy adult subjects was studied after the administration of pentagastrin and after water or a liquid nutritive substance was instilled into the stomach. The electrical activity was recorded by a bipolar method, with electrodes introduced perorally into the gastric cavity and applied by suction against the antral mucosa. Antral pressure was recorded in a 4-ml water-filled latex balloon placed near the electrodes.
