Abstract
A M S 6.4 earthquake occurred in Yangbi, Yunnan Province, China on 21 May, 2021, and its epicenter was located at the western boundary of the Sichuan-Yunnan block in the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau. In this study, we adopted the classical adjustment method to calculate the regional terrestrial gravity monitoring data in southwestern China and obtained the dynamic variation characteristics of the regional gravity field in different time scales from 2016 to 2020. The results showed: (1) The variations of terrestrial gravity field near the epicenter of the Yangbi earthquake showed notable changes in general and were related to the regional tectonic activities; (2) An obvious four-quadrant distribution of gravity changes appeared near Dali, and the feature reversed in the next year. (3) Half a year before the Yangbi MS6.4 earthquake, there was a significant reversal of the high gradient zone of gravity field near the epicenter, and the Yangbi M S 6.4 earthquake occurred near the zero contour line of this high gravity gradient zone.
