Abstract

Starting with a plane wave excitation limited by a circular aperture, the on-axis average intensity is presented in a turbulent atmosphere. The on-axis average intensity profile is evaluated by altering the radius of an aperture, the wavelength and the propagation distance. The results show that the radius of an aperture within a certain size impacts on the on-axis intensity distributions. When the propagation distance or the radius of an aperture is long enough, the on-axis average intensity distributions cannot be affected by the size of the aperture. Combined with the on-axis intensity for plane wave limited by a circular aperture in free space, the relation between the on-axis average intensity distributions and the wavelength is also discussed.
