Abstract

A clinical impression of differing rates of compulsory admissions, using the Mental Health (NI) Act 1961, to different psychiatric hospitals is confirmed. Different psychiatric hospitals in the province, although following a similar downward trend over the years, have compulsory admission rates which vary by up to four fold. Possible reasons for this are discussed.
