Abstract

MAMMALIAN heart muscle contains about one-quarter of its phospholipid, on a molar basis, in the plasmalogen form. Unlike brain, where the plasmalogen is almost entirely in the ethanolamine form (glycerol 2-acyl-1-alkenyl-3-phosphorylethanolamine)1, heart muscle contains both the ethanolamine and choline plasmalogen.
