Abstract

The gas in a petroleum pool varies in direct proportion to the concentration of higher methane compounds. This fact,' and strongly characteristic butane‐isobutane and pentane‐isopentane ratios resulting from petroleum reservoirs chemistry, seems to serve as a reliable standard for distinguishing between pools in the Oligocene‐Miocene and Pliocene reservoirs of the Azerbaydzhan (West Caspian) basin. ‐‐M.
