Abstract

When heparins were methanolyzed under conditions described in the present paper, derivatieves of hexuronic acid monomes were obtained in good yields as determined quantitatively by ga-liquid chromatography. The amount of hexuronic acids released from N-acetylated, N-desulfated beef lung heparin accounted for 75% of the calculated amount of hexuronic acid of this sample and L-iduronic acid was considered to be the major component. Large variations were observed in the relative amounts of these hexuronic acids released from heparins of different mammalian organs and heparin fractions obtained by column chromatography.
