Abstract

A patrol study of auroral emissions was made with a fast grating spectrograph at the Yerkes Observatory. It was found that (1) all quiet arcs showed a very intense Ha line, whereas rayed features never showed Ha; (2) the Meinel system of N2+ underwent little variation relative to the First Positive system of N2. The implications of these findings are discussed.
