Abstract

This study investigates the distinct features of new media arts with a focus on nonlinear space-time and decentralized roles. Such nonlinear and decentralized features are examined through analyses of new media artworks. The analyses reveal that the audience’s experience expands into a space-time experience that traverses cyberspace and reality. Meanwhile, the relationships among creators, their works, and their audiences are not fixed but constantly changing. As such, the new, compelling scene of new media arts occurs within the space of these relationships. This study suggests that the formation of such relationships is a central characteristic of new experiences in new media arts.
