Abstract
From a random collection of rugose corals, fifty-two mature and complete specimens of Aulophyllum fungites were obtained for a statistical study of variation. Six characters were chosen as variables: diameter of coral; diameter of axial complex; number of major septa; length of major septa; number of peripheral septal lamellae; and number of central septal lamellae. The frequency distribution of each variable is unimodal. The range, dispersion, and correlation of the variables are shown in tables and statistical calculations. These describe quantitatively this random sample of this particular population or community of Aulophyllum fungites.
