Abstract
The problem of the hydrogen molecular ion H 2 + is considered in the free-particle momentum-space representation of the Dirac equation. This representation permits a straightforward interpretation of the relativistic energy corrections arising from the kinetic and the potential energy expansion as well as the contribution from virtual electron-positron pairs.
