Abstract

In this paper, special features of the variational principle in Hamiltonian mechanics (the problem of covariant formulation and boundary conditions) are analyzed; the difference between the variational principles in the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms is emphasized. Moreover, four version of the covariant variational principle are suggested. 1. Determining Hamiltonian mechanics requires specifying a function (Hamiltonian) on an even-dimensional manifold M 2 n endowed with a symplectic struc
