Abstract

In this report we present results of variational calculations of the dependence of the negative trion binding energy on the quantum well width and on the quantum well barrier height. We discuss also the angular correlation between the particles forming the trion in its ground state. The calculations are performed specifically for the case of CdTe quantum wells where a number of experimental data are available within a general approach of the envelope wave function approximation. The ground state of the trion is obtained by the Ritz variational method. We compare our results with existing experimental data, as well as with theoretical calculations by other authors.
