Abstract

Effects of highly inhomogeneously magnetized ferrite on propagative characteristics of magnetostatic waves are analyzed by the variational method. Dispersion characteristics and energy trap phenomena of magnetostatic waves in a ferrite slab are given in the microwave frequency region. Representative calculated curves show that, for the extermely high nonuniformity of the saturation magnetization distribution, the dispersion shows a backward nature. In connection with the calculation of the dispersion relation, power flow density of magnetostatic waves is obtained for several branch lines of the dispersion, which demonstrate the energy concentration phenomena in a highly inhomogeneously magnetized ferrite slab. The boundary conditions over ferrite surfaces of discontinuity are also discussed.
