Abstract

We study the bosonic Hubbard model in one, two and three spatial dimensions and show that a very accurate variational wave function can be constructed by applying a long-range Jastrow factor to the non-interacting ground state. This wave function, that generalizes the well-known Gutzwiller one, gives an accurate description of the superfluid–insulator transition.
