Abstract
A multilayered cuprate superconductor with a nominal composition of HgBa2Ca9Cu10Oy has been synthesized under high-pressure. A powder sample was aligned in an epoxy resin in magnetic field. The sample was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Phases from n=6 up to 15 have been recognized in the XRD patterns. The c-axis length changes by about 3.17Å with n, which means that the crystal structure changes by a unit cell of the infinite layer CaCuO2. The susceptibility showed a large and sharp superconducting transition at 103K. It suggests that the phases of n=6–15 have almost the same Tc. The behavior of Tc can be explained using inhomogeneous charge distribution model in multilayered cuprates.
