Abstract

Introduction: The use of simulation for surgical skill acquisition is established in surgical education. Virtual Reality (VR) simulators are a significant resource in laparoscopic training whose effectivness has been demonstrated. Access to VR simulation is only one component of a well-designed curriculum. Modern educational theory involves needs assessment when designing curricula. The paucity of data on pre-training skill levels for learners performing laparoscopic tasks on VR simulators is a problem.
