Abstract

Pass-by noise levels were repeatedly measured for four cars using different operators and different environments. The measurements were made according to the SAE J986a procedure, which has been used as a basis of the California Vehicle Noise Code. The level produced by each car was found to be affected significantly by ambient temperature and by differing crosswind and/or differing reactions of each operator at the various test sites.
