Abstract

The spin Hamiltonian with trigonal symmetry for Mn 2+ in Al 2O 3 has been derived. The line positions have been calculated using perturbation theory up to third order. Three groups of forbidden transitions Δ M = ± 1 Δ m = ± 1 have been investigated. Q′ and γ have been deduced from for forbidden hyperfine doublets. The two evaluations of the spin Hamiltonian parameters from allowed (Δ m = 0) and forbidden lines ( Δm = 1) are discussed.
