Abstract

Popliteal artery entrapment syndrome is a congenital anomaly of the relationship of the popliteal artery with the surrounding musculotendinous structures that causes functional extrinsic compression of the artery, most commonly involving the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle. We discuss a new variant of popliteal artery entrapment syndrome involving a slip of muscle from the lateral head of the gastrocnemius muscle compressing the popliteal artery against the head of the medial gastrocnemius muscle.
