Abstract

This research investigated variables that may affect the surface roughness of conventional glass ionomer cement (GIC), including the immersion of specimens in Coca-Cola®, applying CPPACP paste and then immersing in Coca-Cola® directly or after 30 min, or immersing the specimens in Aqua Bidest (control group). Results showed that the surface roughness of conventional GIC increased significantly after immersion in Coca-Cola®, whereas applying CPP–ACP paste and then immersing in Coca-Cola® decreased the surface roughness of conventional GIC. Furthermore, the surface roughness of conventional GIC was significantly decreased after applying CPP–ACP paste and then immersing in Coca-Cola® after 30 min. It was concluded that decreasing the surface roughness of conventional GIC was not significantly different after applying CPP–ACP paste when immersed in Coca-Cola® immediately or after 30 min.
