Abstract

AbstractA similarity solution is given to a very viscous Newtonian fluidflowing in a channel which is suddenly heated or cooled. The viscosity is assumed purely an exponential function of temperature and heat generation is very large. The asymtoptic approximation is that the downstream viscosity at the channel wall differs by an order of magnitude from that in the upstream flow. This solution can be used to check results of numerical simulation in the injection of either a thermoplastic or a thermoset resin into a cooled or heated mold, respectively.
