Abstract
A variable delay line that uses ultrasonic propagation in water has been constructed. The delay, variable from 200 to 2600 μs, is controlled by an input voltage, and is variable at a rate of 40 μs/s. A bandwidth of 800 kc/s is achieved at the carrier frequency of 7 Mc/s. The delay is stable to better than 0.05% over the normal range of room temperatures. Automatic gain control holds the change in level of the output pulse to better than ±1 dB.
