Abstract

The following trace elements Li, K, Rb, Cs, Sr and Ba, and rare-earth elements have been analysed in eleven plagioclases and corresponding matrix from the calc-alkaline suite of Peru in order to establish partition coefficients. The calculated values are divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of femic hydrous minerals. The partition coefficient variations are discussed according to equilibrium and non-equilibrium conditions. Some elements, such as Sr ( D> 1), vary regularly from one rock group to the other in relation with temperature, plagioclase composition and melt structure. Other factors (perhaps P H 2O ) are needed to explain the variability of elements with D ⪡ 1. Finally, this study outlines the different behaviour of the elements according to their affinity for the liquid phase and the presence or absence of hydrous phases.
