Abstract
The vapour pressure of trans-1,2-dichloroethene at temperatures from 273 to 320 K and cyclopentane from 280 to 320 K were measured by comparative ebulliometry. Isothermal vapour-liquid equilibria (VLE) in the mixture were determined by a dynamic method using a recirculation still; excess molar volumes V m E were measured in a dilatometer of the Kumaran and McGlashan type at 298.15 K. Both the VLE and V m E results were correlated by a polynomial. The mixture forms an azeotrope at the pressure 47.28 kPa and composition 54.2 moles per cent of trans-1,2-dichloroethene. The mixture is only weakly non-ideal: G m E(max.) = 181 J·mol −1, V m E(max.) = 0.35 cm 3·mol −1.
