Abstract

3, 3, 3-Trifluoropropene (R1243zf or HFO1243zf) is a promising refrigerant due to the low global warming potential and similar performance to R134a. Ionic liquids 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([Emim][BF4]) and 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([Bmim][BF4]) are two potential absorbents with appropriate viscosity, good stability and absorption capacity to fluorine containing refrigerants. The phase behavior of refrigerant/ionic liquid mixtures is crucial for their deep applications. In this work, the vapor–liquid equilibrium of R1243zf with [Emim][BF4] and [Bmim][BF4] were measured based on the isochoric saturation method, and the non-random two liquid (NRTL) model was utilized to correlate the experimental results. The effects of different anions and cations on the liquidus molar fraction of R1243zf were studied. In addition, the Henry’s constants and derived thermodynamic properties (enthalpy, entropy and Gibbs energy) for the two mixtures were calculated. Furthermore, the phase behavior of different HFO refrigerants (R1234ze(E), R1234yf and R1243zf) with [Emim][BF4] were compared and analyzed.
