Abstract

AbstractIn keeping with its objectives as a society for professionals, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers created the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) in 1985 to intensify development and dissemination of the latest scientific and engineering practices for prevention and mitigation of catastrophic incidents involving hazardous materials. Since its founding, CCPS has cosponsored many international technical symposia and has published several books. In addition, material has been developed to help integrate process safety into undergraduate chemical engineering programs. CCPS research on vapor cloud formation now in progress should yield new data for improved process safety.This workbook, which is a companion to Guidelines for the Use of Vapor Cloud Dispersion Models, was produced under the guidance of CCPS's Vapor Cloud Committee. Rudolph Diener, Exxon Research and Engineering Co., is Committee Chairman and members are professionals provided by several companies. Sanford Schreiber, CCPS staff, provided project coordination and administration. The books's principal authors were Steven Hanna and David Strimaitis, Sigma Research Corp.
