Abstract

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a complication of combination vancomycin piperacillin-tazobactam use, affecting 20-30% of adults on this antibiotic regimen. Dosing of this regimen, originally studied in non-pregnant individuals, is extrapolated to use in pregnancy, despite physiologic changes in renal drug clearance. Our objective was to determine if AKI is associated with vancomycin and piperacillin-tazobactam use in obstetric patients.
