Abstract

The extraction of V(IV) and V(V) from phosphoric media by LIX 860‐I (5‐dodecylsalicylaldoxime) in toluene has been studied. LIX 860‐I does not show appreciable extractability for V(IV) whereas V(V) extraction depends on metal concentration, extractant concentration, and phosphoric acid concentration. The extraction process in the biphasic system is accompanied by an oxidation‐reduction reaction. 51V‐RMN spectroscopy has been applied to corroborate this hypothesis. The stoichiometry of the extracted complex is postulated based on a numerical data treatment. Finally, the extraction of vanadium from industrial phosphoric acid is also studied.
