Abstract

Introduction: Minocycline is a tetracycline derivative with anti-inflammatory properties considered safe and effective for the treatment of acne vulgaris. However, minocycline is known to have a breadth of side effects ranging from mild to severe. Based on the FDA’s data from 1998 to 2003, minocycline adverse reactions occur at a rate of 72 per 1 million prescriptions. Patients commonly experience lightheadedness, GI symptoms, skin hyperpigmentation, and tooth discoloration.
