Abstract

An injection valve with a small internal loop actuated by pneumatic switching was used for high-speed gas chromatography (GC). Small internal diameter (50 and 100 μm i.d.) open tubular columns were used for investigations of the injector performance. Several valve injection systems have been tested. The influence of the sample solvents, the injection temperature, the connection methods, and the time-split technique under GC conditions have been investigated. High resolution, fast separation speed, and reproducible GC analyses have been achieved. This study indicates that valve injection onto small internal diameter open tubular columns is a promising technique for high-speed and high-resolution GC analysis. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
