Abstract
New figures from the Healthcare Commission show that black African and Caribbean people in the UK are three times more likely to be admitted to hospital and up to 44% more likely to be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 despite the fact that the prevalence of mental health problems among this group may not be any higher.
