Abstract

Objective To study the appropriate time of the 50 g oral glucose challenge test (GCT) to screen the gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and to study the importance between the maternal age and body weight of gestational diabetes mellitus. Methods From February 2006 to February 2008, the clinical data of 8345 pregnant women who underwent 50 g oral glucose challenge test in the West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University were retrospectively analyzed. Results Among 8345 cases underwent 50 g oral glucose challenge test to screen gestational diabetes mellitus, ①The abnormal rate of 50 g oral glucose challenge test was 41.50%(3463/8345), 19.00%(658/3463) were diagnosed as gestational diabetes mellitus and 17.12%(593/3463) were diagnosed as gestational impaired glucose tolerance(GIGT). ②There were no difference in gestational diabetes mellitus rate of abnormal 50 g oral glucose challenge test when 50 g oral glucose challenge test underwent during gestation(P>0.05). ③The rate of abnormal 50 g oral glucose challenge test and the incidence of the gestational diabetes mellitus had significant difference among different age groups(P<0.01). Conclusion Age is one of the important risk factors for the gestational diabetes mellitus. It is better to screen gestational diabetes mellitus among pregnant women older than 25 years old.
