Abstract
The optimum timing and frequency of mammograms in breast cancer patients following breast-conserving therapy (BCT) are controversial. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines currently recommend a mammogram 6-12 months following radiation. The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) recommends the first post-treatment mammogram 1 year after diagnosis, but no earlier than 6 months after completion of radiotherapy. The Intermountain Healthcare policy is for patients to undergo mammography every six months for two years following BCT before they return to annual screening.
