Abstract

Small bowel obstruction (SBO) is a common concern in patients who present to the emergency department (ED) with acute abdominal pain. It is important to determine which patients with suspected SBO's will do well with conservative management versus those who will require urgent surgery, as prior data suggests that those who fail conservative management and ultimately require surgery have increased resultant morbidity and mortality.
