Abstract

Hirschsprung’s disease (HD) is a congenital anomaly in which numerous improvements in terms of the level of knowledge and treatment options have been made. Along with modern diagnostic tools, like suction biopsy, a number of new surgical techniques were developed, such as the laparoscopic approach and trans anal endorectal pull-through. Results: This paper present our experience with De La Torre-Mondragon procedure, in a retrospective study of 28 HD cases. We focused on the value of rectal biopsy and water-soluble contrast enema as main diagnostic tools, the surgical technical details and the encountered complications - perianal dermatitis (10 cases), acute enterocolitis (14 cases), encopresis (4 cases), functional obstruction due to anastomosis in the transition zone (1 case), and mechanical obstruction (3 cases). Conclusions: We conclude that the De La Torre-Mondragon surgical technique is for us the procedure of choice in or common forms of HD.
