Abstract
In the context of globalization driven by market economy forces, every student is expected to be competent in English and proficient in their communication skills. Mastery in communication skills has gained a lot of significance and value and has become a prerequisite of an incumbent in the corporate sector. Effective English language communication skills help students to enhance their self-confidence and self-esteem levels. Apart from the need for communicating in their academic tasks every day, the students must be exposed to the challenges of effective and efficient communication in the workplace. The students of science and technology should go beyond communication skills to perceive and comprehend a holistic perspective of communication and use it in their real-life situations. This chapter focuses on the rationale of assigning a project work to the engineering students which adds value to the communication course in the ESP context.
