Abstract

Valproic acid is considered standard treatment as monotherapy or in combination with other psychotropics for manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Drug interactions with valproic acid have been commonly reported, secondary to both its ability to inhibit drug elimination and to induction of its metabolism by concurrently administered drugs.
