Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine the valuation of drinking water as a fundamental right established by the Political Constitution of Peru and its environmental protection from the perspective of the Three-dimensional Theory of Law, by the citizens of the province of Trujillo. This research used a mixed methods study, applied type, non-experimental, cross-sectional and correlational design. The sample consisted of 420 citizens, who were selected through simple random sampling. The survey and interview techniques were used, deriving 4 instruments to measure the variables, which validity and reliability were tested. It was determined a direct relationship of moderate magnitude (.30 ≤ rs <.50) and statistically significant (p<.05) between the valuation of drinking water as a fundamental right and its environmental protection (rs=.44) and with the protection in terms of fact (rs=.43), value (rs=.40) and rule (rs=.37) from the perspective of the three-dimensional theory of law, in the citizens of the province of Trujillo, year 2021. In addition, the specialists interviewed agreed that the valuation of drinking water contributes to its environmental protection; thus, the population should be made more aware of its care and give greater importance to itstreatment and sanitation.
