Abstract

The purpose of this paper is: (1) to present the relevant factors for obtaining an esthetic implant-borne single-tooth crown and (2) to assess the prognostic value of the initial esthetic score calculation. Materials and methods. From December 2002 to March 2016 we inserted 287 single-unit implant-borne crowns. We have calculated the initial esthetic score, e.g. before treatment and biased it against the final one, e.g. after treatment completion. Results. The initial esthetic score matched the final one up to a maximal 2-point deviation in 84% of the cases. Discussion. The only 84% accuracy match is probably due to some subjective paragraphs like “esthetic requirements” or “hygiene level and availability”. Conclusions. Calculation of an initial esthetic score seems to be an acceptable method for predicting the esthetic outcome of implant-borne single-tooth crowns.
